Simplicity

The dictionary meaning of simplicity means the “quality or condition of being easy to understand or do. The quality or condition of being plain or uncomplicated in form or design”.

I absolutely love simplicity and am saddened by the fact that it appears to be frowned upon or, in the very least, not respected as something beneficial and worthwhile. Truth be told I reckon that in a world of information overload, where an MBA degree is valued over the ability to cook, care for the elderly, be a great parent, grow food, or know how to fix a leaking tap and that how we appear on Social Media is more important than the basic ability to emotionally self-regulate tells me that something is wrong in our world. Where is everything ordinary in our world? Where is everything that is plain, not fancy and uncomplicated?

What on earth happened to the simple things in life? Simplicity makes things easier to learn, easier to remember, because there is no unnecessary clutter like irrelevant information getting in the way of your focus on what’s important. Simplicity brings a certain refinement and sophistication to life.  It comes about after lots of hard work, effort, and discipline. It takes effort to reduce massive detail and complication and all things trivial to a simple truth or fact that’s easily understood, bringing clarity and perspective.

Simplicity is about no hidden agendas, it’s about honesty, no extra layers, everything in its most authentic purest form. There’s no excess, confusion, or overindulgence. Brilliance often presents as pure simplicity.  For me simplicity and truth go hand in hand because deception and lies are complicated.
